Cleaner staffing & budget planning – preventing even 2–3 long-term illnesses per year typically pays for the program several times over.
Actionable follow-up – results go back to members with clear next steps and coordination with a primary care provider.
About FD Screening
Firefighter-Owned. Clinically Driven. Built to Save Lives.
FD Screening was created by a group of firefighters and nurses, working in collaboration with Dr. Michael Hamrock, a leading voice in firefighter health. Together we built a firefighter-specific, mobile diagnostic program that detects cancer, cardiac disease and metabolic illness early — long before they take firefighters off the line or force early retirement.

We are firefighters. We are providers. We are you.

From Guidelines to a Mobile Screening Program

Working closely with Dr. Hamrock and national partners, our team expanded these guidelines into a fully mobile screening program. We organize testing into risk-based tiers by years of service and age, and bring ultrasound, EKG, lab work, skin exams and primary-care evaluations directly to your department.
By removing barriers to access and delivering comprehensive screening on-site, we improve participation, catch disease earlier and help departments reduce long-term illness, injury pay and overtime backfill.
Created by Firefighters, for Firefighters

On the job, we saw too many members being diagnosed late with aggressive cancers, heart disease and uncontrolled hypertension. Standard annual physicals weren’t designed for the exposures, shifts and risks firefighters face, and busy schedules made it hard for members to complete multiple appointments. FD screening grew out of that reality. Our team of firefighters and providers set out to build a clear, annual screening program that fits the fire service schedule and culture while protecting members, families and municipalities.

Medical Direction by Dr. Michael Hamrock

Dr. Hamrock is a primary care physician and leading advocate for firefighter health. He developed comprehensive firefighter screening guidelines that are intentionally more aggressive than standard physicals to account for occupational exposure to smoke, carcinogens and extreme stress.
His protocols call for annual, firefighter-focused exams that include expanded blood work, stress echocardiograms, skin exams and earlier cancer screening for cancers common in firefighters such as brain, lung, kidney, bladder, prostate, colon and blood cancers — along with early detection of heart disease, hypertension, high cholesterol and obesity.
Detect disease early. Protect firefighters. Support municipalities. Keep companies in service.
Why Firefighter Specific Screening
Firefighters and first responders face increased rates of cancer, sudden cardiac events, hypertension and metabolic disease. Many members only see a provider when something is already wrong. FD Screening is designed to find problems early — when they’re most treatable and least disruptive to staffing.
