How the FD Screening Program Works:

We organize members by years of service and age. As occupational risk increases, the screening becomes more comprehensive — from baseline labs, EKG, pulmonary testing, skin screening, and medical evaluation to targeted ultrasound studies, expanded cardiac risk screening, and cancer-risk screening elements when clinically appropriate.

For a typical mid-sized department of around 150–175 members, the full program usually falls under the six figure range annually, depending on demographics and local needs. Most departments pair this with grant support and wellness budgets.

Operationally Built for the Fire Service

Designed for the Firehouse, Not the Waiting Room

FD Screening brings a coordinated medical screening structure directly to your department, built around staffing, apparatus readiness, member privacy, and the reality that calls can interrupt even the best schedule.

Command Board Flow Structure℠

Organized like the fire service. Built for screening day.

FD Screening uses a structured Command Board Flow Structure℠ to coordinate each screening event from start to finish. Rather than relying on a traditional waiting room model, members move through a clear station-based process built around firehouse operations, apparatus readiness, privacy, and real-time flow management.

Why it Matters

Fire departments do not operate like traditional medical offices. Members may be on duty, apparatus must remain available, and calls can interrupt even the best schedule. The Common Board Flow Structure℠ helps keep the screening day organized, efficient, and flexible, allowing FD Screening to reduce bottlenecks, protect member privacy, and keep departments operational while screenings are completed on site.

How the Test Works

  • A single blood draw

  • Lab processes circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA)

  • Identifies if a cancer signal is present

  • If positive, the test predicts the most likely cancer signal origin, guiding next steps

Galleri® Multi-Cancer Early Detection (MCED) Test

A powerful optional add-on to your FD Screening program

Overview

The Galleri® test is an innovative, clinically validated blood test that screens for a shared cancer signal associated with dozens of cancer types, many of which are not typically screened for through standard guidelines. This makes it especially valuable for firefighters, who face significantly higher rates of occupational cancers.

FD Screening + Galleri Integration

Departments can choose to offer the Galleri test as an add-on during annual or interval screenings:

  • Performed alongside routine blood work

  • No disruption to workflow

  • Results delivered securely to the member

  • Support provided for follow-up diagnostic planning if needed

Benefits for Municipalities

  • Detect high-risk cancers before they generate catastrophic medical leave costs

  • Reduce long-term disability claims

  • Lower the probability of late-stage diagnoses

  • Enhanced wellness offering that strengthens union–management collaboration

**The Galleri® test does not detect all cancers and should be used in addition to routine cancer screening tests recommended by a healthcare provider. This is important as it is not a recommended standalone part of the screening program that we offer and is not meant to replace a proper yearly health screening evaluation.**
