Mobile Screening Platform

Busy Lives. Shift Work. No Time for Routine Care.

Even with excellent guidelines available, many firefighters struggle to complete recommended screenings. Between 24/48 schedules, overtime shifts, family responsibilities, and limited appointment availability, participation was low, even among members who wanted to be proactive.

Departments faced growing numbers of firefighters out long-term due to cancers, heart disease, advanced hypertension, and metabolic conditions that could have been treated years earlier.

We needed to remove every possible barrier.

So we decided to bring the screenings directly to the firefighters.

The Solution: A Fully Mobile Firefighter Screening Program

We Bring Comprehensive Screening Directly to Your Department

Working with Dr. Hamrock, our team expanded his medical guidelines into a fully mobile diagnostic screening program designed to capture everything firefighters need in one streamlined, department-based visit.

Depending on the selected program tier, on-site services may include:

  • Ultrasound evaluations customized for Firefighters.

  • Resting and post-exertion/recovery EKG

  • Advanced lab testing

  • Behavioral health screening

  • Full skin exams

  • Pulmonary function testing

  • Firefighter-specific physical examinations

  • Cancer-risk screening elements and primary-care follow-up coordination

This model solves the #1 problem in firefighter healthcare: access.
Members don’t have to schedule multiple appointments, drive to specialists, or coordinate time off.
We come to them — at the station, training facility, or municipal building.

Firefighter Medical Risks

Firefighters face significantly higher rates of cancer and cardiac disease due to heat stress, smoke exposure, toxic environments, interrupted sleep cycles, and workload demands. FD Screening provides a firefighter-specific medical program that identifies these conditions early.

Occupational Cancer Risks

Firefighters experience higher incidence of multiple cancers due to repeated exposure to carcinogens including PAHs, benzene, diesel exhaust, PFAS, and combustion byproducts.

  • Skin cancer

  • Kidney cancer

  • Bladder cancer

  • Colon cancer

  • Prostate cancer

  • Testicular cancer

  • Leukemia & lymphoma

  • Brain cancer

  • Lung cancer (especially with smoke exposure & longer tenure)

Cardiac Disease Risks

Sudden cardiac death remains the #1 cause of firefighter line-of-duty deaths. Early detection of cardiac abnormalities is essential due to chronic heat strain, high physical demands, and sympathetic surges.

  • Hypertension

  • Left ventricular hypertrophy

  • Coronary artery plaque burden

  • Arrhythmias

  • Obstructive sleep apnea

  • Obesity & metabolic syndrome

Symptoms to Watch For

Firefighters often minimize symptoms. Any of the following warrant evaluation:

  • Chest tightness or shortness of breath

  • Unusual fatigue or decreased exercise tolerance

  • Persistent cough or hoarseness

  • Unexplained weight loss

  • Night sweats or fevers

  • Skin changes or new moles

  • Blood in urine or stool

  • Headaches or neurological changes

First Diagnostic Screening is a firefighter-operated administrative screening platform. Clinical services are provided through a physician-owned professional entity and qualified clinical partners. FD Screening does not replace a member’s primary care provider, emergency care, or specialist evaluation. Screening results are intended to identify risk factors and findings that may require follow-up with an appropriate healthcare provider.
